Jason was never drafted
into the WHL like most junior players. He was scouted at the age
of 18 by a very observant, intuitive and ingenious Kamloops Blazers scout
by the name of Bob Brown. His team at the time was the Edmonton Knights
of Columbus Pats, and apparently they lost almost every game that season,
but that scout sure knew how to find a diamond in the rough!
-
Jason is cousins with
Rob
and
Scott Niedermayer of the
Calgary Flames and
New
Jersey Devils respectively.
-
When playing for
the New York Islanders, Jason roomed with
Eric
Fichaud and helped teach the Quebecois goalie English.
An Eric Fichaud testimonial:
"I have to thank Jason Strudwick. He was very good with me. When I was sent to
play in the minors in Worcester, I lived with Jason. He made me feel comfortable
and it helped that he knew a little bit of French. He told me in a nice way how
to use verbs so that, after a while, it started to come automatically to me."
-
Jason was seen beating the tar out of some sorry
shmuck from the Pens on the back cover of
EA
Sports' NHL 2000 box. (Jodi says that in EA Sports NHL 2001,
they even show Jason's chin-dimple, the graphics are that good!)

-
Jason's favourite book growing up was, "The Hobbit"
by J.R.R. Tolkien, the first book he ever read was, "I am Third" by Gale Sayers,
and the book that had the greatest influence on him was "Chicken Soup for
the Soul"
